Nov. 6 - Trailside Update
Today Ben was on Trail by 5:30 -
covering the Blue Ridge Parkway, VA.
It was an absolutely gorgeous day, high mid-70's; Rick speculated that either Ben planned the start/end dates appropriately, or they're feeling the effects of global warming...
He expects Ben to return at 8 PM, having covered 48 miles today. For dinner Rick has rummaged up some home-cookin' from SUBWAY! Spicy Italian, a Trail treat...maaaybe.
Now, evening-time, it's 63 degrees. The best part of the day was meeting Ben early on, Rick surmises, when the weather was "literally perfect"; "I was jumping around and yelling" he explains, "the enregy was high"; having come from sub 40 degrees up North - it was like experiencing the dawning of Spring...for a day.
Ben and Rick are passing through Lexington tomorrow and the heart of historic Civil War Virginia. They're gearing up for Roanoke, VA this weekend - where they plan to meet up with some new friends; stay tuned!
I passed on a quote to Rick from Lou Gehrig - the Hero that we celebrate today. It's a line from his farewell speech - and though it referred to specific people in Gehrig's life, it also applies to those people around us.....friends, parents, teachers, people we've met along the way, if only for a short visit.
"Look at these grand men. Which of you wouldn't consider it the highlight of his career just to associate with them for even one day?"
That goes to say - thanks friends.
*Be Well,
Team 2175 (Cj)
